An event every week that begins at 10:00am on Wednesday, repeating until August 30, 2017
Join guest instructor Brandy Agun in a basic still life 3 week class. 10am-noon
Still life is a fascinating art form with tremendous possibilities for expression.
Exquisite still life painting may be as simple as a single object or encompass a vast array of objects in a complex arrangement. In this class you will learn how to set up an intriguing composition using objects, color, shadow and light as the major elements of design.
All levels are welcome. Mature teen artists and older recommended. Existing students can continue with this class.
You need not have prior drawing or oil painting experience.
Various methods are explored to create accurate drawings.
Mixing and handling oil paint is carefully explained. You will learn to make thumbnail sketches and explore different croppings of your image. You then progress to draw your still life onto a toned canvas or oil painting paper and to block in the major components with a first pass of painting.
In subsequent passes you will add more detail such as highlights, dark accents, and surface items such as jar labels, etc… In final stages you will learn to scumble and glaze to deepen contrasts and enrich colors.
Brandy will email you a list of materials to bring to the class including brushes, paint, still life props, and more. Canson’s Canvapaper or Arches oil paper, still life vignette materials, props, lighting, some basic drawing and oil painting materials will be available.
