Northwest Art Center art instructors will take you on daily adventures as you experience and capture the creative beauty of the Palouse. \nOptional daily morning yoga classes\, optional field trips and all meals included. \nBring your camera to capture the lovely rolling hills of the Palouse. Photo by 2017 Palouse Art Retreat guest Rob Runnells. \nTestimonials\nLi and Jon Ochs were incredibly welcoming and generous hosts. The farm was a beautiful backdrop for creativity and togetherness. I loved it! \nThe NWAC Artist Retreat was a magical\, amazing weekend that stretched and replenished my artistic spirit. It was great to share the weekend with so many like-minded souls and make so many wonderful new friends! \nI cherish my memories of this weekend spent at Eureka Farm in the Palouse. I was able to eat and drink with fellow artists\, learn about and try my hand at painting and photography\, admire the wildlife and the spectacular scenic parts of the farm and surrounding areas\, play bocce ball\, watch a movie\, take naps\, make s’mores and sit around the fire\, and help prepare a delicious Italian feast. I loved it! \nART & PHOTOGRAPHY\nExplore various mediums and techniques from professional artists. A detailed daily schedule will be available a couple weeks before the retreat starts. \n\nExperience the magic of on site\, Plein Air Painting with David Repyak in a beautiful rural setting down by the Snake River. \nClass: Plein Air Painting at Penewawa\nInstructor: David Repyak\nMedium(s): Acrylic or Oil\nDescription: Enjoy plein air painting down at Penewawa down by the Snake River. 3 hours of painting outside followed by a picnic lunch (provided) and then a different afternoon location with 3 additional hours. Please bring an easel and your favorite brushes and paints. We will provide two 12″x 12″ boards for acrylic or oil painting per person\, and have extra brushes and paints on hand if needed.\nAll ages\, all ability levels. \n\nLearn to paint like Van Gogh from NWAC art instructor Terry Muharsky. \nClass: Van Gogh Impressionist Landscape\nInstructor: Terri Muharsky\nMedium(s): Acrylic on stretched canvas\nDescription: This class aims to teach how to paint in a bold impressionist style with emphasis on how paint strokes uphold composition. Using this painting as a point of inspiration\, I will show how to create emotional impact with color while using paint strokes that create movement and structure. We will use fingers\, not brushes\, to apply the paint to the canvas board. \n\nEnjoy a step by step acrylic painting class with Irina Johnson. \nClass: Loose and Vibrant Landscape Painting\nInstructor: Irina Johnson\nMedium(s): Acrylic on stretched 12″x12″ canvas\nDescription: Enjoy this beginner 3 hour easy step by step acrylic lesson with Irina. Irina has taught adult painting classes for the last sixteen years. She has recently shown her art at the Duvall Art & Wine Walk\, and in 2015 she exhibited in New York City. This will be Irina’s first year at the Palouse Art Retreat. We are excited to have her join the project and know you will enjoy her fun teaching style. \n\nWater Color paint flowers from the gardens of Eureka Farm. \nClass: Watercolor Flowers – Loose and Lively\nInstructor: Susan Jenkins\nMedium(s): Watercolor\nDescription: Capture the colorful beauty of Li’s spectacular garden with splashes of vibrant color\, bringing life and freshness to your watercolor paintings. Learn techniques for expressive brushstrokes\, mixing bright\, lively colors and portraying the vitality and freshness of flowers through simplicity and style. Class will begin with instruction on drawing technique and composition. A step-by-step demonstration in watercolor will follow: saving white space\, wet in wet technique\, color mixing\, and texture. All levels are welcome to explore expressive beauty of the garden. \n\n \nPaint a lovely water color rendition of your favorite barn photograph. \nClass: Watercolor Barns\nInstructor: Nadja Wilson\nMedium(s): Watercolor\nDescription: All levels welcome. Bring a couple color copies of your favorite barn. Nadja will show you how to easily transfer the basic structure of your barn from the photograph\, then a guided step by step method to paint sky\, fields and some basic texture techniques for the barn roof and walls. Last year\, Nadja spent 100 days water color painting a barn a day. She will share some of the tricks and observations she learned through this daily artistic dedication. The class will also discuss suggestions for how to dedicate yourself to regular artistic mindful practice and the value it brings to your life. \n\nFunky Chickens of Palouse project \nClass: Funky Chickens of the Palouse\nInstructor: Pam Martin: I’ve been creating since I was a young child. One whole summer was spent with my brother\, building an entire city out of clay\, which even included tiny pieces of popcorn for zoo animals and Jaws menacing a small boat in our little pond. My mom was OK trading an endless supply of clay for a quiet summer. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest gave me a great appreciation for the outdoors\, wildlife and especially the ocean. I’ve always imagined the magical world that exists in the deep waters. My love for whales has led to a decade of educating people about them and assisting with research projects\, and the ocean theme carries over into much of my art. I love to tap into a magical and whimsical world though my art and to take my viewer where imagination is limitless. I am currently focusing on illustration for children’s books.\nMedium(s): Gourds\, acrylic paint\, acrylic and permanent markers\, polymer clay\nDescription: Paint your own Funky Chicken gourd and decorate with acrylic paints by brush or acrylic paint markers. You will create your own beak\, waddles and crown with polymer clay. \n\nA sample of Jim Martin’s travel photography. \nClass: Photography with Jim Martin\nInstructor: Jim Martin is a travel\, nature and landscape photographer based in the Snoqualmie Valley. His work has been featured in the Edmonds Arts & Crafts Fair\, the Kenmore Art Show\, several local exhibitions in Duvall\, WA and a juried exhibition at the Microsoft headquarters. His travel photography was shown in a solo show in Duvall\, and one of his images was featured on the Bing.com home page. His work can be seen at https://www.jimmart.in/ \nMedium(s): Photography\, bring your own camera and photography equipment.\nDescription: The Palouse in Eastern Washington is a world-famous landscape photography location. For this class\, we’ll discuss some technical details for capturing your best images of the landscape\, cover some composition guidelines\, then hit the road to photograph some of the most iconic Palouse locations. Afterward\, we’ll upload the images to a big screen computer and (after some quick processing) see what we’ve got! \nThis class is perfect for beginning/intermediate photographers. More advanced photographers would enjoy the field trips but might zone out during the lecture part… \nParticipants should bring their own cameras. Interchangeable lens DSLRs or mirrorless cameras are most appropriate\, as they offer the most control over their functions. Users of point and shoot or mobile phone cameras can participate in the class but won’t be able to make use of some of the advanced shot techniques discussed. Multiple lenses and extra equipment like tripods and filters should be brought along if they’re available. \nClass time would be roughly two hours – an hour of lecture Saturday morning and an hour of review Saturday afternoon. I’ll be going to take photos Saturday after the lecture – students can go their own way or stick with me to work on getting shots. Similarly\, students\nare welcome to join me on the trips to Steptoe Butte and Palouse Falls\, where I’ll help them get shots. \n\nThere’s an option below for locals to pay for and just attend the art classes and meals. \nPhotograph\, draw and paint your own originals of the gardens\, farm equipment and buildings of Eureka Farm. \n\nFIELD TRIP TO STEPTOE BUTTE (Optional)\nEnjoy an optional field trip to the top of the famous Steptoe Butte. A world renowned place to take photos and enjoy a 365 degree view of the Palouse country. We’ll plan the field trip weather pending for sunrise or sunset. The field trip to Steptoe Butte is free and anyone local to the area is welcome to join the group. But please provide your own transportation. \nA field trip you won’t forget. The view from the top of this ancient butte is spectacular. \nFIELD TRIP TO THE DAHMEN BARN (Optional)\nEnjoy an optional field trip to visit the Artisans at the Dahmen Barn. The barn was developed to provide local artists and crafts people working studio space along with the opportunity to showcase their work and sell directly to the public. There are thirteen studio spaces at the Barn\, where artisans create their work and are happy to talk to visitors about their creative process. The artists have access to their space 24/7\, so working hours vary from studio to studio. Some of the resident artisans have full time jobs\, so can only be there weekend days. \n Visit an beautiful old barn renovated for artists\, art studios and classes. \n\nDAILY YOGA (Optional)\n“Yoga is not about touching your toes\, it’s about what you learn on the way down.” \nEnjoy optional refreshing and easy morning stretch with yoga instructor Suzie McNeilly. \nYoga will start at 8am Saturday-Monday in the lawn at Eureka Farm. \n\nDINING & CELEBRATION\nArrive on Friday for happy hour and heavy appetizers. Delicious farm family style\, home cooked meals (breakfast\, lunch and dinners) are served every day. Wine selections flow with dinner. Please bring your own other alcoholic beverages of choice.\nThere is a bocce ball court\, croquet\, fields to stroll in\, owls to watch and a fire pit to enjoy late into the starry night evenings. \nEnjoy dining outside weather permitting and socializing and s’mores around a fire pit in the evening. \n\nEUREKA FARM RETREAT HOSTS\nMeet your gracious hosts Jon and Li Ochs\, owners of Eureka Farm. SUMMARY:Art on the Farm Summer Camp at Oxbow
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a week of art and creative adventures at Oxbow farm! \nAge Range: 7 and up\nDescription: Come out to Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center for outdoor art. Art journaling\, still life painting\, making and painting with your own natural pigments\, flower pressing and pounding\, nature and farm observation. Enjoy nature drawing and observation on the trail and time at the Wild Spot. A day in the orchard doing fruit art projects\, a hay ride\, berry picking\, and time in the garden. Harvest\, paint and eat your own still life. Paint and hide rocks. Build fairy houses\, gnome homes and more.\nInstructor: Susan Jenkins\, Nadja Wilson\, and guest instructors from Oxbow Farm & Conservation Center\nMinimum/Maximum: 4/15\nDate & Time: Mon-Fri\, 3 hrs a day\, August 6th — August 10th\, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\nCost: $190 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nOxbow Farm & Conservation Center \nNWAC Oxbow Camp Preparedness: \nNorthwest Art Center campers will be guests of Oxbow Farm. It will be important for us to respect the rules and policies of Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center. \nCampers must come to camp every morning ready to spend their whole experience outside\, rain and shine. While we have many natural nooks for shade and shelter here on the farm\, we only go indoors in the event of thunder and lightning. \nHere’s how to be prepared each day for camp: \nNOTE TO PARENTS: On Day 1\, a photo ID is required when you pick up your camper. Please inform anyone who has permission to pick up your camper that they must bring a photo ID when they are picking up your camper for the first time. \n\nBring a towel and spare clothes\, including shoes\, on the first day of camp. Campers can keep these items at the farm all week and take them home on Friday. Send these items in a bag labeled with your child’s name.\nDress appropriately. This means dress for the weather. Summers are getting hotter\, so we do whatever we can to cool down. Sometimes we opt for getting wet and muddy\, or sometimes berry juice from homemade popsicles gets on our clothes\, so we encourage kids to wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty. On rainy days\, rain coats and rain boots will be necessary.\nEvery day\, bring a backpack with a morning snack\, substantial lunch\, reusable water bottle\, sunscreen\, and a sun hat. Be sure to check the weather each day! Pack extra shoes if it’s going to be rainy. We want to be ready for whatever Mother Nature sends our way.\nWear close-toed shoes. We will be hiking\, running over a variety of surfaces\, and sometimes using Kids’ Farm tools.\nReduce waste! Oxbow has a low-waste policy. Throughout the camp week\, kids will learn about ways to reduce our impact on the environment. Please ensure that your child’s lunch and snack come with as little waste as possible and that they are sent with a durable reusable water bottle.\n\nPromptness:\nPlease do your best to be on time for drop-off 10am and pick-up 1pm. \nLocation for drop-off & pick up: \nDirections: We are using our West Entrance for camp. NOTE: Google Maps will send you to the wrong entrance! Please use these directions to our West Entrance\, or see the map below. Please drive 10 mph as a courtesy to our neighbors on this shared road. \nDisclosure:\nFull disclosure of your child’s medical\, emotional\, and behavioral needs is required in order for us to create the most enjoyable\, safe\, and harmonious camp experience for your child and for all campers. Our capacity to work with a wide range of challenges is significant\, but we can only do so when we have all of the information. Nondisclosure of medical\, psychological\, or behavioral challenges may result in a child being sent home from camp mid-week\, without refund. This information is confidential and will only be shared with the camp staff and volunteers. Upon registering for camp\, you filled out information about health and behavior for our records. Please take this opportunity to add any additional information you think is helpful for staff. \nMap of Oxbow and Entrance
